A scrum master helps oversee the software delivery team. They are knowledgeable in Agile methodology and scrum, and able to educate others. They also maintain a safe working environment for the team by helping with conflict resolution. The scrum master will be directly involved in process creation and execution, as well as eliciting buy-in from the delivery teams on new processes or process improvement. The goal is for the scrum master to help build a productive environment where team members ‘own’ the product and enjoy working on it.
Responsibilities:
- Project Level Duties:
- Work with product owners to handle backlogs and new requests
- Help teams plan deliverables
- Manage each project’s scope and timeline
- Resolve conflicts and remove obstacles that occur
- Facilitate internal communication and effective collaboration
- Be the point of contact for external communications (e.g. from stakeholders)
- Ensure deliverables are up to quality standards at the end of each sprint
- Report to the Director of Project Management on deliverable tracking and impediments/delays
- Team Building
- Remove impediments and coach the scrum team on removing impediments
- Monitor team performance
- Resolve conflicts and issues that occur
- Help the scrum team achieve higher levels of scrum maturity
- Agile Process Duties
- Coordinate sprints, retrospective meetings and daily stand-ups
- Coach team members in Agile frameworks
- Lead the scrum and development teams in self-organization
- Help the scrum and development teams to identify and fill in blanks in the Agile framework
- Help teams implement changes effectively
Requirements
- Certified Scrum Master
- Other agile certifications is a plus
- At least 3-5 years experience as a Scrum Master, either dedicated or multi-functional
- Passion for agile methodology
- Ability to innovate in the areas of agile processes and pivot quickly when improvement is needed
- Ability to manage multiple teams (on-site)
- Experience in a startup environment is a plus
- Highly organized
- Strong leadership, collaboration, communication, and decision-making skills to gather, organize, share, and rally multiple groups around an objective
- Exceptional conflict resolution skills
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
- Passion for problem solving, driving innovation, and bringing new solutions to life
