Engineering Tech I

This is a temporary opportunity with a strong likelihood that it will become a temp to hire opportunity. Our client, a mid sized oil production company with offices in Bakersfield, CA and abroad is looking to add a dynamic and well versed engineering tech to their drilling and production departments. This firm is growing in size due to acquisitions and expanding their operations creating numerous opportunities. 

Essential Job Functions 

  • ·Support engineering in maintaining OFM database and monitoring production performance for assigned division
  • ·Retrieve and verify data for analysis, prepare reports, and do analysis as requested
  • ·Prepare and process DOGGR permit applications and well remediation work
  • ·Write AFEs for well work
  • ·Run economic models
  • ·Create and maintain wellbore diagrams
  • ·Collect relevant engineering data to support applications for project permitting
  • ·Consult to file room personnel for help with document identification
  • ·Fill out regulatory agency forms for well work completed
  • ·Maintain multiple Excel tracking sheets for well data analysis
  • ·Assist in field witnessing procedures (i.e. perforating, Frac Packing, etc)
  • ·Recommend steam cycle candidates
  • ·Collect, quality, control, and submit information for well files; includes but not limited to work histories, gauging information, and production logs
  • ·Work on special project requests and provide assistance to other divisions as needed
  • ·Perform other related duties as assigned by the Sr. Vice President

Minimum Qualifications:


  • ·B.S. / B.A. degree preferred. Experience may be considered in lieu of a B.S./B.A. degree


  1. Five (5) to ten (10) years experience as an Engineering Tech
  2. Experience with building databases and spreadsheets for tracking and analyzing data
  3. Familiarity with oil and gas reporting requirements and how to properly fill out the required form

Skills/Knowledge/Ability of:

  1. Knowledge of petroleum well files and basic well operations
  2. Familiarity with well file construction, wellbore diagrams, etc
  3. Knowledge of MS Office Suite required; knowledge of SQP and OFM, or equivalent is desirable
  4. Knowledge of economics; run economic programs such as MERAK PEEP
  5. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  6. Strong organizational skills in methods of record keeping and records management
  7. Strong verbal and written communication skills
  8. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  9. Ability to execute proper telephone procedures
  10. Ability to be self-directed and establish priorities to achieve goals and meet established deadlines
